Operating a Generator

Generator Operation Tips

  • Always read your owner’s manual before operating your generator.
It is important the you are familiar with the operation for your specific model before getting started.
  • Always run your generator outside. Close any doors and windows.
Like all products powered by gasoline engines, Energizer ® generators produce carbon dioxide while running. Always run the generator outdoors and away from the home. Keep doors and windows closed.
  • Give the generator space.
Leave at least three feet of space around the top and sides of the generator. Do not enclose the generator in a box or tent. Proper ventilation is vital to its use and your safety.
  • Keep the generator dry.
Do not use the generator in wet conditions, such as rain or snow, or near a pool or sprinklers.
  • Run the generator on a firm level surface
  • Run the generator at least once a month.
Running your generator regularly helps insure it will start when you really need it. Running the engine circulates oil, circulates fresh gas through the fuel system, and recharges the battery.

Fuel

  • Ethanol blended gasoline can typically contain up to 10% ethanol by volume. It is recommended to use fuel that does not contain ethanol. Ethanol content legislation varries from country to country, state to state, and ethanol use varies between different fuel companies so it best check if the gas you’re buying contains ethanol. To avoid using gasoline containing ethanol you can use gasoline with a pump octane rating of 91 or higher, however this does not ensure it is ethanol free. You can also purchase fuel additives to eliminate the problems assosiated with ethanol fuel in small engines such as Mechanic In A Bottle Ethanol Shield.
  • Energizer ® engines are engineered to run on unleaded fuel.
  • Never use stale or contaminated gasoline or an oil/gas mixture.
  • Avoid getting water or dirt in the fuel tank.
  • Only refuel when the engine is off and cooled.
Only refuel in a well-ventillated area. To reduce risk of fire or exlosion do not over fill. Clean up any spilled fuel before starting the generator.
  • Store the generator in a well ventilated area.
The fuel tank cap vents the tank. Fuems can collect and ignite, so aduquate ventilation is a must.

Starting the Generator

  • Review your owner’s manual and ensure you are familiar with your generator’s controls and operation.

Before starting your generator:

  1. Move the generator outside
  2. Check the fuel level and add fuel in necessary
  3. Check the oil level and add oil if necessary.
  4. Check the air filter and clean if necessary.
Startup-01

1. Rotate the fuel valve lever to ON position (vertical position)

Startup-02

2. If the engine is cold: push the choke lever into the on/closed position. You can find the choke lever above the air filter cap on the left side of your generator

Startup-03

3. Disconnect all devices from the outlets on the generator panel. Then press the engine switch to the “RUN” position.

Startup-04

4. Grasp the recoil starter handle and pull it until the generator starts. Do not allow the recoil starter to snap back. Return it slowly by hand.

Startup-05

5. Push the choke lever to the OPEN position as the engine warms up. The choke is used to proved the proper air-fuel mixture when the engine is cold.

Startup-06

6. Turn off the switches of devices before connecting them to your generator.

Startup-07

7. Insert the plug of the device into your generator based on its voltage requirements. Your eZG6250 generator includes two (2) 120V AC outlets and one (1) 120/240V AC outlet for power specific appliances such as an oven or washer/dryer. Be sure the "Voltage Switch" is appointed to the outlet type that you require.

Startup-08

8. You can now turn your devices on and use them.

Stopping the Generator

Shutdown-01

1. Turn off all of the connected devices. Let your generator run for a few minutes to cool down.

Shutdown-02

2. Stop the generator by pressing and holding the engine switch in the "off" position until the generator stops.

Shutdown-03

3. Rotate the fuel lever to the off position (horizontal).

Transporting you generator

  1. Turn the fuel valve OFF. Never leave the fuel valve on if engine is not running as fuel can get into the crankcase and dilute the engine oil resulting in engine damage.
  2. Allow the generator to cool for 15 minutes before transporting.
  3. Always transport the generator upright.
  4. Always secure the generator if transporting in a vehicle.
